Requirements
Because we care so much about the safety and well-being of every shelter pet, we have certain requirements of individuals wishing to adopt.
- You must be 18 years or older
- Valid photo identification, such a current Driver’s license, State identification card or United States passport, is required.
- Proof of current address, such as a recent utility bill is required.
- If you rent, your landlord must allow pets. We will contact your landlord before your application is approved to verify this information.
- Any other dogs or cats living in your home must have current rabies vaccinations and County license tags.
- If you plan to keep the dog outside, you must have a fenced yard and a location where the dog can seek shelter from the sun and rain. An Animal Care Officer will visit your home to verify this before approving your application.
- Certain breeds may require a home visit by an Animal Care Officer before an application is approved. These breeds include, but are not limited to Pit Bull, Akita, Doberman, Rottweiler, Cocker Spaniel, Dalmatian, and Chow.
- There may be other requirements depending on the specific dog or cat you want to adopt.
